Elaine Tedesco was born in 1963 in Brazil. She lives and works in Porto Alegre.
Elaine Tedesco’s work is based on an observation of the city and its inhabitants. Working on issues such as isolation, protection, and rest, the artist creates sculptures and installations from fabric, wood, or foam, initiating a reflection on the perception and apprehension of space by the body. Exhibited during the 52nd Venice Biennale, her photographs from the series “Guaritas” take an inventory of guard posts that may be encountered on the streets of Porto Alegre. The precarious cabins, marked by time’s wear and tear are initially photographed for documentary purposes, before enveloping the status of a work of art, by being screened into urban space.
